Our Two Biggest Fans

In our family room and living room, we have these really gross fans:

that have reversible blades which are even more awesome than the side we have showing:

These things are HEAVY. Imagine me holding it while Jeremy disconnected and connected the wires before and after painting the ceilings - it was not a pretty sight. I am not a strong person! Add to that the fact that I broke one of the globes the day we moved in and crazy glued it back together. And that one of the bulbs in the fan in the family room has kicked the bucket and another one flickers on and off like it's trying to communicate with us...

And you get two pretty nasty fans. We figured it would be awhile until we would be able to buy some new ones as fans are not the cheapest thing to replace. After another evening spent messing with the flickering light, I started casually looking at fans online, just to see if I'd be able to find anything for a decent price. A few days later, Jeremy texted me - Menards' fans were on sale! And we had rebate money that we could use (11% rebate is their best sale)! Hip hip hooray it was time to look at fans!

Picking one out was a pretty quick process (you eliminate a lot when you're looking at only low-profile ones!), but our Menards only had one in stock. We took a short drive to a close Menards that had four in stock, picked up another one, and about $115 later, we had two shiny new fans. Thank goodness for sales and rebate money, because otherwise these fans would have been $200 total. $85 savings isn't bad!

Jeremy and I put them up pretty easily. Jeremy took care of all the wiring, standing on ladders, and general putting together, while I got the blades ready to be attached to the base. It didn't take too long to do this - maybe an hour and a half total? The second fan definitely went a lot faster as we already knew what we were doing. It was a pretty quick change, and now our main living space looks SO much better! It's amazing what some new fixtures will do to a space!
