We're A Little Bit Cheesy

If you missed the last post you should go read it. It's a big one and the main reason I haven't posted on here in awhile. Finishing our porch was such a big job that we've been trying to just enjoy it and relax since then. Not that we haven't been doing things, but that's why I haven't been too active on here. But enough excuses. Onward!

One day after work Leslie and I were just sitting in the living room when I come across an event on Facebook: a cheese-making class at a local business. I tell Leslie about it, she thinks it sounds cool, and we're free that evening... so why not? I buy the tickets and a few weeks later there we are! The class was at Tulip Tree Creamery, a company I'd been introduced to at a Yelp event a year or so previous. Be sure to check them out online if you're interested.

The class was so great! First off, it's a fairly small class with only four groups of four people, so that means lots of help from the instructors and really no risk of messing up too badly. It's also a BYOB event, so we brought along a bottle of wine and dug into the incredible spread of cheeses, crackers, preserves, and charcuterie they provided. We made queso blanco and fresh mozzarella, both of which turned on to be pretty delicious. We also got a tour around their facility and had the option to buy some of their cheeses at a discount (which we did, of course). Overall it was a really fun night and we had a great time. I'd highly recommend it if you like cheese.

The delicious spread they had for us

Bringing the milk up to temperature

Adding the rennet

Straining the curds out

Our queso before forming and cutting

The instructor showing us how to stretch mozzarella

Tour through the various refrigerators

And that's all for now. More coming soon! Thanks and we'll see ya next time.
