Football Without Football

Yet another busy weekend and yet another tale of fun times to be told. But hey, I'm certainly not complaining.

We started off Friday night by hitting up one of our favorite places in Indy - The Tamale Place. Is it a bit of a hole in the wall? Yes. But is it delicious? YES. They have wonderful, authentic tamales and what have got to be the best tacos I've ever had (especially the chipotle chicken). The prices are reasonable, the portions are large, and the food is fresh. Seriously, if you like Mexican food you've got to check it out.

Saturday was off to Purdue for some tailgating. We got to see lots of friends, eat lots of food, and listen to Purdue lose by lots of points. It was a great time, though. It had been awhile since we'd see some of these people and it was great to just hang out and catch up without having to go to the actual game. It seems that football without the football may be one of my new favorite things, especially if Purdue keeps playing like this. Definitely a good way to spend the day. Leslie made her caramel brownies - one of my favorite things she makes. Gooey, chocolatey, and full of caramel... and they're even better with ice cream. I made a southwest style dip. The bottom layer is cream cheese, cheddar cheese, Anaheim peppers, hot sauce, and cilantro. I spread that on the bottom of a dish (a pie pan, in this case), put a thin layer of salsa on top of it, and sprinkled a bit more cilantro on that. Definitely good enough to make again.

It was a rainy day on Sunday. Normally this might not be a good thing, but my lovely wife made potato soup! You just can't beat good soup on a rainy day. Leslie found the recipe in one of our slow cooker cookbooks and thought it would be a good one to try out. We also picked up some bread and enjoyed our hearty meal from the comfort of our living room while the rain fell outside. If that's not a good fall day then I don't know what is. Even the kitties were in a sleepy mood (but then again aren't cats always in a sleepy mood?).

Seems that's all for now. We'll be back on Friday with another update, so see you then!

  1. I really like the idea of football without football (maybe because I'm a Purdue fan?). But I'm all for the tailgaiting, delicious chilli, throwing of foam footballs, and all the other fun football culture; without having to deal with all the humiliating defeat of our schools confident warriors.
