Pig Candy

Bacon is one of the best things in the world. But know what's better than bacon? Sweet and Spicy Candied Bacon. Yep, that's right. For real. We made this for our aforementioned Symphony on the Prairie double date, along with some other yummy sides. This is our tenth recipe of the year - half way there!

The Recipe

Sweet and Spicy Candied Bacon
1 lb Thick-Cut Bacon
1-1/2 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne
1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper

Arrange the bacon in a single layer on a broiler pan or rack over a cookie sheet. Place into a preheated 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven, flip the bacon over, and sprinkle with the sugar mixture. Place back in the oven for 20 to 25 more minutes or until crispy. Remove from the oven and transfer to paper towels to drain.

End Results and Final Thoughts

My mom makes this for family gatherings and it never lasts more than a day - it's that good. The sweet and spicy and salty all play well together in the mouth and make for a delicious snack every time. I did change this up a bit when I made it by only using half the called out cayenne and pepper so it wasn't too spicy for the ladies. I also recommend putting a layer of foil under the wire rack to keep the pan from getting too messy (cleaning up after cooking is something I like to do as little of as possible).

And that's all I've got for right now. Sorry the posts have been a little lame lately... we've been busy. There's more goodness coming soon, though, in the form of another wedding post, a completed closet post (hopefully soon), scenic pictures, a few more foodie posts, and maybe even an update on our long-lasting landscape project. So stay tuned! And thanks for reading.
